The evolution of software testing will continue in 2022. It is expected that there will be new processes, new software testing trends that will unfold this year, and there will also be trends that will further shape the testing industry following the changes of previous years.
Looking at articles written by industry experts, marketers from manufacturers and service providers, the following predictions have been made by key professionals about the future of the testing industry. Just buzzwords? Maybe. In any case, these are the key players in the sector. Because it’s fashionable to talk about these, even without emphasizing: not all problems are solved.
Let's first examine what significant trends and changes the software testing industry expects during 2022. According to international experts, the trends experienced in 2021 will continue to strengthen this year, the profession forecasts that the following dominant processes will gain ground.
According to development experts and analysts, the number of automated processes could be incredibly high in the future, which in many cases will lead to an increase in the need for automated testing. Although automation is not a substitute for the necessary manual testing of certain elements, in 2022 companies are expected to focus on the conscious choice and combination of manual and automated processes - so market has already surpassed the expectation of a miracle and is realistically incorporating the available solutions in everyday life.
Artificial Intelligence (AI) allows computers to learn on their own, analyze the situation quickly, and solve a task using previous experience. To simplify the process, machine learning is also actively used, allowing artificial intelligence to learn effectively by analyzing the solution of similar tasks. Artificial intelligence combined with machine learning takes software testing to new heights - professional portals advertise, but it is rarely pronounced that it is far from applicable to all task classes, maybe this year may see the breakdown of excessive hype and really strong AI and ML skills well identification and communication of usable segments.
According to international experts, more centralized testing platforms and infrastructures will emerge in 2022, allowing testers to work as a team from different physical and geographic locations while still having full access to all test infrastructures. With these applications, test cases can be written and automated from anywhere. In practice, this means that even more cloud based platforms can be expected this year - yet sensitive security issues in critical business areas are far from resolved and the limitations of hybrid usability of public cloud, private cloud and on-premise solutions are unknown.
According to research, companies ’spending on cybersecurity could reach $ 133.7 billion by 2022. As the number of data breaches and targeted attacks has steadily increased in recent years, software testing professionals also need help to create cybersecurity.
These are the trends that the profession and the major manufacturers and service providers want to see. Compared to these, what is the reality in Hungary? What and how can you infiltrate domestic testing from international trends? What doesn’t even show up on international radar and still be significant in our country? In our next article, we will ask Attila Mészáros, R&D Director of ProofIT, to see where the software testing industry is heading in 2022.
